Sousa aim­ing to re­ju­ve­nate his ral­ly­ing ca­reer with Drive DMACK Tro­phy chal­lenge

Bernardo Sousa starts this year’s Drive DMACK Fi­esta Tro­phy look­ing to breathe new life into his ca­reer.

The ex­pe­ri­enced Por­tuguese, a for­mer World Rally Cham­pi­onship sup­port series fron­trun­ner, strug­gled to make an im­pres­sion with lim­ited WRC out­ings last sea­son. He is hop­ing five ral­lies in a Ford Fi­esta R2T will help get his ca­reer back on track.

Sousa said: “My plan is to fight for the win in all events, but I haven’t driven since Sar­dinia last year and the last time I drove a two-wheel-drive car was 2006. The Tro­phy is very im­por­tant to try and re­launch my ca­reer so I need to learn as fast as pos­si­ble.”

As well as the ex­pe­ri­enced Sousa, there are two fa­mous sons also com­pet­ing. Max Vata­nen is back for his third sea­son in DDFT, while Os­car Sol­berg – son of Hen­ning – starts his first WRC cam­paign. Both are ex­pected to be fron­trun­ners in the series.

Ten DDFT Fi­es­tas are set to start in Por­tu­gal.
