BLAND’S RUSH FOR HOT ROD TITLE Points leader faces struggle to be ready for English showdown TOBY MOODY
COMMENTATOR AND HILLCLIMB FANATIC “The best thing is that it is all fully legal”
National points leader Shane Bland goes in to the final round of this year’s Hot Rod season facing a race against time to prepare his car – and fears he will lose the crown at the last moment for the second time in a row.
Bland is ahead going into the Foxhall Heath showdown on Monday, but has had to recruit extra help to rebuild his car following a damaging accident during one of the heats at Aldershot last time out. The Vauxhall Tigra driver was leading the 2014/2015 points standings until a clash in the final race of the season meant he was pipped at the post. He is leading by eight points from Carl Waller-barrett going into this year’s finale.
He said: “I don’t want to be known as the nearly man. I have had bad luck, and it looked this week like I would have to miss Foxhall too. The accident at Aldershot really damaged the car and it wasn’t until we got it back to the workshop that we realised the extent of it.
“I am a one-man band, really, and the guy I have helping me is away at the moment. I was going to withdraw from Foxhall but I spoke to my dad, Gordon, and he and his mechanic are coming over early for the meeting and will help me prepare the car. It’s all hands to the pump.”
