James Hinch­cliffe has se­cured pole for this week­end’s Indy 500 a year on from his heavy shunt in Indy prac­tice that left him out for the rest of last sea­son. The Sch­midt-peter­son driver nar­rowly beat Josef New­gar­den to pole, while Brit Max Chilton will start 22nd. His Chip Ganassi Dal­lara had to be re­built af­ter a hefty crash in prac­tice… Egor Orudzhev clung on to win the first For­mula V8 3.5 race at Spa last week­end af­ter a close fight with Tom Dill­mann. Louis Dele­traz com­pleted the podium. Matthieu Vax­iviere gave SMP Rac­ing a maiden win in the cat­e­gory in a very wet race two. Dill­mann led ini­tially but was caught out by a pud­dle and had to set­tle for sec­ond, with Al­fonso Celis Jr com­plet­ing the podium. Orudzhev was among the many non-fin­ish­ers af­ter a pit­lane col­li­sion with Johnny Ce­cotto Jr. Dill­mann now has a 35-point ad­van­tage over Dele­traz at the top of the standings… Marco Wittmann led through­out the first DTM race at the Red Bull Ring last week­end, with Tom Blomqvist mak­ing it a BMW 1-2. Timo Glock won race two from third on the grid af­ter pass­ing Mat­tias Ek­strom and Jamie Green on the first cou­ple of laps… Joey Logano won NASCAR’S non-cham­pi­onship $1mil­lion (£690,000) All-star race at Char­lotte last week­end. Kyle Lar­son was lead­ing but made a mis­take with two laps to go and hit the wall…
