Briton Adam Christodoulou helps Black Falcon Mercedes team to Nurburgring 24H victory
Briton Adam Christodoulou helped the Black Falcon Mercedes team to Nurburgring 24 Hours victory after a last-lap battle.
Maro Engel was at the wheel of the number 4 Mercedes AMG GT3 when he managed to pass the similar Htp-run car of Christian Hohenadel on the final tour.
Despite then making slight contact with a backmarker as he pulled clear, Engel held on to secure the win for himself and Black Falcon team-mates Christodoulou, Bernd Schneider and Manuel Metzger. The winning margin of 5.597s was the closest in the history of the race.
“We just won the biggest race of my life,” said Christodoulou. “I think I screamed so loud on that last lap that I lost my voice. I’m speechless. Huge thanks to everybody involved.”
Mercedes locked out the top four spots, with the Haribo AMG GT of Uwe Alzen, Lance David Arnold, Maximilian Gotz and Jan Seyffarth taking third place behind Hohenadel, Christian Vietoris, Marco Seefried and Renger van der Zande.
The race was red-flagged for more than an hour on Saturday due to cars being stranded out on track after a violent hailstorm.
