Belcher makes a comeback to the circuits after quarter of a century
Richard Belcher, once a frontrunner in the British Saloon Car Championship, has ended a quarter-century sabbatical to race a Lotus Cortina this season.
Belcher, 71, from Brackley near Silverstone was a leading saloon car racer through the 1970s and 1980s and finished second in class in the 1985 BSCC in a Ford Escort. He last raced in 1990 in a Vauxhall Astra GTE.
“Once you’ve raced you never lose the bug,” said Belcher who has acquired the ex-dan Cox Lotus Cortina. “I decided to come back.”
He is planning a mix of HSCC and CSCC races this season and will share the car with his old friend Dave Carvell in two-driver races. They have been friends since racing together in the 1980s and will race the Cortina at Spa in late June.
