Ingram hopeful ahead of Adam gravel debut on Azores ERC event he won last year
This weekend’s Azores Rally will mark Chris Ingram’s gravel debut in a factory Opel Adam R2.
The Manchester driver is at home on the Portuguese island, having won the ERC Junior category last season and finished runner-up first time out in 2014. He is wary, however, of predicting backto-back Junior success due to his lack of loose surface competition in the Opel.
“I know how to win in the Azores,” he said, “but we just need to see how we go with the car there. I’ve done a day testing on gravel and the Opel’s great, the trouble is, you can’t find anywhere to test that’s like the Azores – it’s just so different to everywhere else!”
Ingram won his class on the Sachsen Rallye in Germany 10 days ago and he says that success has given him confidence.
“I’ve also got good confidence in the Azores,” he said. “I’ve made notes and competed there a few times, so when the fog comes in, I’ve got a good idea of what the road’s going to be like. And I love the place, it’s just awesome.” ● Reigning ERC champion and Azores favourite Kajetan Kajetanowicz will make his world championship debut on his native Rally Poland at the end of this month in a Ford Fiesta R5. He won the event in 2013 and 2010 when it counted for European points.
