Mini Classic takes in famous Irish roads
The famous roads of Torr Head and Glendun featured on this year’s Circuit of Ireland Rally will be put to use at the weekend, with Paddy Hopkirk and Rauno Altonen among the starters for the Mini Classic Rally.
Terry Harryman will also start the event, which begins from Gracehill House on Friday with scrutineering. Current Mini campaigner and regular historics class winner Ray Cunningham, Manxman Adrian Kermode and Dr Dessie Nutt are all targeting the event win.
The new rally is the work of Mini Northern Ireland enthusiasts George Jennings and Trevor Barlow.
“I think it’s going to prove very hard to pick a winner,” said Barlow. “Because there is so much talent across the field.
“There will be those who are coming along for nostalgic reasons – to relive the good old days during the 1960s and 1970s – but there will also be those coming along determined to win it. It should make for an exciting day.”
