His pole po­si­tion lap was stun­ning, he led the race with ease in the wet and then reeled in Hamil­ton af­ter switch­ing to in­ter­me­di­ates. But for the sec­ond race in the row, it was fac­tors out­side of his hands that cost the Aus­tralian a vic­tory when his Red Bull team didn’t have a set of tyres ready for the Aus­tralian to use. “Two week­ends in a row now I’ve been screwed, it sucks,” he said. Hard to dis­agree.

Lewis Hamil­ton’s sec­ond Monaco Grand Prix vic­tory was his fifth in the Prin­ci­pal­ity. He won twice in Euro­pean For­mula 3 and once in GP2 (above with ART Grand Prix in 2006) prior to step­ping up to F1 the fol­low­ing year.
