China en­cor­po­rates Great Wall into route

Septem­ber’s Rally China will in­clude 16 stages – in­clud­ing one at the foot of the Great Wall – and 195 miles of com­pe­ti­tion.

De­tails of the first WRC round in China since 1999 were re­leased to the me­dia and teams last week. The ser­vice park will be based along­side rally head­quar­ters at the Bei­jing Yanqi Lake In­ter­na­tional Con­ven­tion and Ex­hi­bi­tion Cen­tre, 40 miles north of down­town Bei­jing.

The route, which mea­sures 818 miles in to­tal, will in­clude two loops of three stages on days one and two be­fore a fi­nal morn­ing in­clud­ing three more stages with only the 5.24-mile Great Wall test re­peated as the pow­er­stage.

The or­gan­is­ers are con­fi­dent in China’s all-as­phalt route, say­ing: “For rally peo­ple, the sport­ing chal­lenge of the Rally China roads will be an im­me­di­ate at­trac­tion.”

The new event runs from Septem­ber 9-11.
