Rain causes Texas Indycar race to be red­flagged and post­poned un­til end of Au­gust

The re­main­der of the Texas Indycar race will take place in Au­gust af­ter heavy rain show­ers af­fected the venue last week­end.

The race was post­poned un­til Sun­day af­ter wet weather pre­vented it from start­ing on Satur­day.

But fur­ther rain once the race be­gan led it to be red­flagged af­ter just 71 laps.

It means the other 177 laps of the con­test will now take place on Au­gust 27, the Satur­day af­ter the Po­cono round of the se­ries, as not enough of the race was com­pleted to de­clare a re­sult. There will be a prac­tice ses­sion be­fore rac­ing re­sumes with the po­si­tions from the aban­doned race.

James Hinch­cliffe was lead­ing at the time of the rain with Ryan Hunter-reay, Mikhail Aleshin, Will Power and Ed Car­pen­ter next up.
