Sandy Mitchell made history at Silverstone by becoming the youngest driver ever to record a pole position in British GT. Aged just 16 years and 100 days, Mitchell achieved the record when he helped the Ecurie Ecosse Mclaren 570S GT4 to pole alongside team-mate Ciaran Haggerty. “It’s a great result, because so far this year we’ve been missing that crucial piece of luck,” he said. “It’s a nice record to have.” Sadly the duo’s race didn’t go as well. They led the early stages but fell back after being caught behind the second safety car and then suffered an engine issue.
