British GT man Clarke plans more Ferrari runs after Britcar return
Former British GT racer Leyton Clarke is in talks to make more appearances with the FF Corse Ferrari team this year after making a return to UK competition recently after a five-year break.
The former Saxmax and BARC Production Touring Car champion shared one of FF Corse’s Ferrari 458 Challenge cars with Simon Atkinson in the last rounds of the Britcar Endurance Championship at Donington Park recently. The pair finished second overall and won their class.
Clarke’s last UK race came in British GT when he shared a Lotus Sport UK Evora GT4 with Freddy Nordstrom.
“It was good to get back out and the Ferrari is a great car, so I’m talking to the team now about doing more rounds of either Britcar or the GT Cup,” said Clarke. “The 458 Challenge doesn’t have the downforce of the GT3 version and it isn’t quite as easy to drive, but it’s accessible and the lap times are seconds faster than my old GT4 car.
“I want to be back in British GT, in GT3, so it’s important to keep my name out there. I’m expecting a few more late deals this year.”
