New Zealand ever-hopeful of WRC inclusion with candidate event
Rally New Zealand officials attended last week’s Rally Italy and met with WRC Promoter to once again press their case for a Kiwi return to the series – and raise awareness of a candidate event next season.
Event chairman Peter Johnston said he remained confident New Zealand would be back on the calendar and looks forward to welcoming WRC Promoter’s Oliver Ciesla to an all-new Rally New Zealand base in Tauranga.
Johnston said: “When Oliver comes down to visit us, he’ll see the very impressive set-up we’ve got now. We have a wonderful new facility to house all of the teams, including a big service park, a superspecial stage and conference centre. We’ll be running a two-day candidate event from Tauranga, run in the style of a WRC round to make sure our staff are up to speed with everything. We’re ready to roll.”
Rally New Zealand heads felt it should have been back on the calendar this year after an agreement of a three-year rotation with Rally Australia.
The date for the candidate event has yet to be decided.
