Ma Qing Hua to make rally debut in China
Former Formula 1 development driver Ma Qing Hua will make his World Rally Championship debut at September’s China Rally, his home round.
The 28-year-old, who also spent two years as a factory Citroen FIA World Touring Car driver winning two races, will work with the Adapta Rally Team, run by Mads Ostberg’s father Morten.
Ostberg Sr is in negotiations with M-sport, Hyundai and Citroen for a seat on the Beijing-based event.
Qing Hua is an accomplished race driver, but he has never competed in a rally before.
“We have been working on this for quite a long time now,” said Ostberg Sr. “Because he hasn’t done any rallying at all, we need to work on everything with him. We will teach him the same pacenote system as Mads is using – a gear-related system. After that we will do some testing in an R5 car in Scandinavia and then an asphalt event in Europe to get used to competition.
“Clearly he can drive a car and he’s a talented guy, so I’m sure he will be able to adapt quickly to rallying.”
