Crash victims suffer broken vertebrae
A driver and co-driver who crashed on the Mini Epynt Stages earlier this month suffered broken vertebrae.
Ford Escort Mk2 driver Martin Evans and co-driver Dan Saunders suffered injuries after a big off on stage three of the June 5 event.
“It’s a very notorious spot,” said Saunders. “We carried too much speed through a corner and Martin misheard the pacenote. He straightened the car up to avoid rolling but that meant we went down the bank.”
Saunders required surgery for three broken vertebrae. Evans also had two spinal fractures but doctors were unsure whether to operate or assign bed rest as MN went to press.
The crew were complimentary of those who arrived on the scene, including spectators, rescue crews, marshals and South Wales Air Ambulance.
