British F4 grid drops after Monger sidelined

British F4 had its smallest grid since switching to its current format at Croft last weekend, after Billy Monger was forced out with budget issues. Just 16 drivers took part in the North Yorkshire races – the fewest since the formula was revamped at the start of last year with the introduction of the FIA F4 Mygale car. The Jamun team pulled out after Oulton Park and several other racers have been left on the sidelines due to budget.

JHR Developments driver Monger has taken two podiums this year and is working on finding the budget to return.

Team boss Steve Hunter said: “We hope Billy can try and get something together for Snetterton. He’s a great character and was sorely missed.”

Hunter added that with more teams set to enter later in the year, the series is still in good health.

“I think it’s just a temporary blip,” he said. “Every series has its ups and downs.”
