Ex-pace F3 car to return to racing
The Lotus 59 Formula 3 car raced in 1970 by Carlos Pace will return to racing at Brands Hatch in 10 days.
Tony Wallen, from Newport, South Wales, has restored chassis 25 for his Historic F3 debut and gave the one-litre car a shakedown at Cholmondeley recently.
After Brazilian Pace won the 1970 Forward Trust F3 Championship on his way towards F1, the car was used in Formula 4 in the UK and then in France in the 1980s.
It is now 30 years since it last raced and more than 40 years since it raced in the UK.
“I bought it about 18 months ago,” said Wallen who has been hillclimbing another 59. “I built the engine and gearbox with a lot of help from Keith Messer.
“It was a bare chassis in February. I now plan to race it as often as possible.”
