Ostberg praises M-sport Fiesta progress

Mads Ostberg has praised the M-sport team for solving the gearshift issues he felt hampered his early season running.

The Norwegian and M-sport struggled to see eye-to-eye on the issue, but further development and testing of the Ford Fiesta RS WRC left the car perfect for Ostberg at the Rally Italy round earlier this month.

In turn, Ostberg was at the sharp end of the rally, trading times with the Volkswagens while running in a similar position on the road. Unfortunately, he clipped a rock which broke a driveshaft and ruled him out of the fight.

Ostberg said: “I was able to drive the car like I wanted and we could see what happened with the times. We have taken a major step forward and it gives me good confidence. It’s tough what happened, but especially with the fastest time in the Monte Lerno stage, we showed what we can do. Now we’re looking forward to Poland and Finland.”

The team wouldn’t disclose the changes but they are likely to involved more re-mapping and programming of the shift.
