F1 driver Palmer samples Clio Cup car for first time
Renault F1 Team driver Jolyon Palmer swapped his RS16 grand prix car for a run in the current generation Clio Cup car last week.
Palmer tested one of the two-litre tin-tops at Bedford Autodrome for his first outing in a front-wheel-drive car. “It was really good fun,” said Palmer. “It was something different for me as I’ve never handled a front- wheel-drive car on track. I was surprised with the amount of grip generally. It also feels like a proper racing car and you can attack the brakes, which any serious racing driver loves. The chassis is very stiff and great fun to hustle. You can see why it’s perfect for a young driver looking to a career in touring cars or even GTS.”
