Strong result could lead to prize WRC2 drives for Osian Pryce
Osian Pryce could become the first beneficiary of the remodelled Drive DMACK Fiesta Trophy in Poland this week.
The Welshman won the DDFT opener in Portugal after Bernardo Sousa rolled his Ford Fiesta R2T out of the rally on the final stage. A similar result for Pryce this week would guarantee him a brace of WRC2 outings with a DMACK Fiesta R5 in 2017.
Pryce, who came within an ace of winning the Junior WRC round in Poland last year, said: “I’m going with the same approach I had in Portugal. There was a bit in reserve there and we’ll start in the same way this week. That said, we can’t be caught sleeping – those boys who missed out on points last time will be pushing very, very hard in Poland.”
This week’s Rally Poland is a key round of DDFT, with points counting for both the Portugal and Poland, and Poland and Finland prize pairing – with a drive in WRC2 on offer for each pair of events.
Pryce’s fellow Brit Gus Greensmith was right at the sharp end in Portugal, showing tremendous pace which he hopes to turn into a prize in Poland.
He said: “I’m desperate for my first win, but we need to play a smart game in Poland so we can go to Finland and fight for the prize drives.”
