Dutch rally great Hettema killed
International rallying lost a notable character when Jan Hettema was shot and killed during a robbery at his home in South Africa last week.
Hettema, who was 82, left Holland with his parents in 1939 for a new life in South Africa and had a successful cycling career.
He competed in the 1956 Olympic Games in Melbourne but was later banned when he won £10 in prize money and was declared a professional.
He turned to rallying and won the South African title five times across four decades and won 37 national events.
He contested the Monte Carlo Rally six times and also found fame for rallying the local Can-am version of the Chevrolet Firenza.
