Stuart Gilby will take part in the Mini Miglia races that form part of the Brands Hatch Mini Festival this weekend after winning a raffle to compete for just £20.

Gilby was one of three entrants randomly picked to take part in a test day at the Llandow track earlier this month and was selected to win the prize by Miglia racer Rob Howard and category legend Endaf Owens – who is providing the car.

Gilby, who is a racing novice, said: “When I entered, as with all competitions, I didn’t expect to be picked out of the hat! Rob and Endaf did a great job of calming my nerves, although my accelerator foot was still shaking. The moment the car was started and pulled into line I started to settle down.

“The successful driver would be the person who drove consistently, smooth and fast. If we broke the car that was it for the day.

“The power of the car was absolutely awesome – like nothing I had ever driven, even though I drive a classic Mini with a good fast road engine. Then the email came through offering me the seat, and I haven’t stopped talking about it since.”
