Preston and Morton down for Otterburn
Tom Preston will give the Skoda Fabia R5 an MSA Asphalt Championship debut when he competes on August’s Tyneside Stages.
The British Rally Championship driver is also second in the BTRDA Challenge, the mixed surface championship which takes in Tyneside as one of its rounds.
“[My co-driver] Jack [Morton] told me it’s also part of the BTRDA Challenge which we’re second in at the minute,” said Preston. “I’ve done it before, I did it last year and that was my first Tarmac rally in six years or so. We came fifth or sixth. I enjoyed it and Jack suggested doing it as a test.”
Preston and Morton, who were 10th on last weekend’s Nicky Grist Stages, will use the Tyneside event to warm up for the Ulster and Manx rallies, the final two events on the BRC calendar.
“I haven’t done a Tarmac event in this car,” he added. “I thought another run before the Ulster and Manx would be good. I’m happy on either surface: I did Tarmac when I started then went to gravel.”
