Bill Cowley will return to racing at Cadwell Park this weekend following a huge accident that nearly wrote off his car.

Cowley was involved in a heavy crash during the second 750 Formula race at Mallory Park in June while chasing championship rival Robin Gearing ( MN, June 22).

Since then, extensive repairs have taken place on the Cowley Mk4 car – which is of special sentimental value because it was built by Cowley’s grandfather.

The repairs have taken four weeks and meant he missed the races at Snetterton last month, but Cowley was surprised by how well the car had stood up following such a high impact.

Cowley, who has tested the rebuilt car, said: “The car ran just as badly as it did before so that’s quite good!

“I’m just going to take the next races as they come and enjoy being back out there.”

Cowley is 63 points behind Gearing in the title chase.
