Tom Delaney hopes to make his gravel rallying debut on the Woodpecker Rally, if he passes his driving test in time.

Delaney turned 17 earlier this month and needs to pass his test before the September 3 event, which he aims to complete in a Rally First-spec Suzuki Swift. Matt Walk will co-drive.

The Droitwich driver was third in the Junior Formula 1000 series last year despite missing two rounds, and has spent most of 2016 testing ready for the switch to gravel.

“Finally, I’m old enough to go and get my licence so I can go and attack it,” said Delaney, son of Peugeot 205 driver Dominic. “We’ve done around 10 tests now,” he added. “We’ve done Sweet Lamb, Higgins and Norway on the ice which was awesome, I really enjoyed that one.”

Delaney has had some valuable advice from various drivers including British Rally Championship contender
