The unique Maki F101 finished an F1 race in the UK for the first time at Silverstone, 42 years after failing to qualify for the British Grand Prix.

Marc Devis raced the Japanesebuilt car and finished 19th in the first Historic F1 race. The car failed to start any F1 races in period. “Before Monaco, it last ran in the 1990s,” said Devis. “It’s a Cosworth package and it’s a good car but it needs a bit of sorting out.”

Former single-seater ace Jonathan Kennard works with Devis and shares his Lola T70MK3B in longer races. He has tested the Maki.

“It’s a great car,” said Kennard. “People have memories of it being terrible, which it was at the time, but the WDK team has done a lot of work on it. A bit more work and it’ll be competitive. It feels comparable to a 1975 Shadow.”
