Speed zeroes in on Global Rallycross title lead
Former F1 driver Scott Speed won the latest round of the American-based Global Rallycross Championship in MCAS New River, Washington, last weekend.
The victory means he has closed in on Volkswagen Andretti Autosport team-mate Tanner Foust in the championship points race.
Speed started on pole position for the final and took the lead at the first corner, followed by former World Rally driver Partik Sandell.
Ford Fiesta pilot Brian Deegan ran third for much of the race, pressured by Foust throughout, until the sometime World RX driver passed his compatriot to finish on the podium.
Deegan was classified fourth with Joni Wiman best of the Olsbergsmse Honda Civics in fifth. Chip Ganassi Racing’s Steve Arpin finished sixth.
