White could seal national series in Clonmel
Roy White will have the chance to seal the Triton Showers Irish National Rally Championship at the Tipperary Stonethrowers Rally on Sunday.
A score of 21 points will give White the title in his first full season in a World Rally Car after he spent the majority of 2015 driving his uprated MG ZR.
There are 20 points on offer for the event win – his home round – plus three points for winning the power stage, two points for second or one point for third mirroring the WRC system.
White says he can’t ignore the fact that the chance is looming ahead of the Clonmel-based event.
“I would like to say that I am looking at this rally as just another event, but I can’t say that. It is on my mind that we can win the championship and it would be great to wrap it up in Clonmel but it’s going to be difficult. We still have a lot of points to get and it’s a very strong entry.”
White is still to take an overall event win in the series, but doesn’t believe he has to risk retirement to go all out and win the event.
“I am not going with the view that we have to win at all costs, I am happy with my pace, we are making changes with the car all the time. I will go as hard as I can, I need a good result to get the points.”
