Ingram facing Germany and Barum double test
Chris Ingram faces two of the most important rallies of his career backto-back as he takes on his first WRC event outside of Britain on Rally Germany before gunning for the European Rally Championship Junior category in Barum.
Ingram has led the JERC from round two in the Azores and holds an 11-point lead over Opel team-mate Marijan Griebel, who will also do Rally Germany. The ERC offers 25 points for a win and there are two rounds to go.
“It’s a massive opportunity,” said Ingram. “Opel decided the programme but even though it isn’t in the championship [ERC], it [Germany] is a mega rally to do. It’ll suit the car well. It’s a chance to go up against some of the best in R2 cars, hopefully we can at least get a podium.”
Ingram’s stiffest challenge will likely come from Griebel, who has finished top R2 on the event before.
“Last year he won by two minutes and retired on one of the days,” added Ingram. “I think he was 30s a stage quicker than the DMACK guys at times. I’m sure they’ve improved.”
