One of mo­tor­sport’s fan­tas­tic fail­ures. The Group 2 Big Cat, pre­pared by Broad­speed, was built to take on BMW in the Euro­pean Tour­ing Car Cham­pi­onship. On its de­but at Sil­ver­stone in 1976 the V12 gi­ant com­pletely out­paced the Ger­man op­po­si­tion but broke. It was a theme that con­tin­ued through­out the car’s rac­ing ca­reer: prodi­gious pace fol­lowed by dis­ap­point­ment. In­deed, the 560bhp Jaguar had yet to win an ETCC round when Bri­tish Ley­land pulled the plug at the end of 1977.
