Funds short­age forces Sousa re­tire­ment

Drive DMACK Fi­esta Tro­phy fron­trun­ner Bernardo Sousa has pulled his Rally Ger­many en­try and an­nounced his re­tire­ment from the sport.

The Por­tuguese driver, who has com­peted at var­i­ous lev­els of the WRC, was among the favourites in this year’s DDFT.

Sousa said: “I lack sup­port and there was a spon­sor who did not take their com­mit­ments. It makes no sense to con­tinue in this sit­u­a­tion. I have to close this chap­ter of my life and pur­sue other goals.”

This week’s penul­ti­mate DDFT round of the sea­son is the first part of another two-rally scor­ing op­por­tu­nity, with the driver tak­ing most points from Trier and the fi­nale in Spain win­ning two prize drives in next year’s WRC2.
