Closed-road ral­ly­ing makes brief re­turn

Closed road ral­ly­ing re­turned to the streets of main­land Bri­tain last week­end when the Blue Streak Targa Rally made use of a num­ber of roads in Bramp­ton town cen­tre, Cum­bria, in or­der to stage a se­ries of tests.

Rally or­gan­is­ers Spadeadam Mo­tor Club worked closely with the lo­cal coun­cil to se­cure the road closures that en­abled com­peti­tors to make three vis­its to the town cen­tre be­tween 1000 and 1500hrs.

Clerk of the course Ian Robin­son said: “This all came from the Mo­tor Club, the Par­ish Coun­cil and Cum­bria County Coun­cil all work­ing to­gether and it shows what can be achieved with ev­ery­one’s co-op­er­a­tion.”

Vic­tory went to John Ber­tram and An­drew Fish in a Ford Es­cort Mk1 with top Targa crew Chris Dodds and Josh Davison fin­ish­ing a close sec­ond in their Peu­geot 205 Ral­lye.
