Turvey and Piquet remain with Nextev squad
The Nextev Formula E team has retained Oliver Turvey and Nelson Piquet Jr for the 2016/17 season.
Mclaren F1 development driver Turvey was one of the unsung stars of a 2015/16 FE campaign in which Nextev went from winning the inaugural drivers’ title with Piquet to finishing last in the teams’ championship.
Turvey, who will dovetail his FE commitments with the end of another Super GT season with Honda, beat Piquet in the standings and was unfortunate not to end his rookie FE campaign with a podium in Battersea Park.
Meanwhile, Turvey’s team handed Indy Lights race winner Dean Stoneman his first experience of an FE car at last week’s Donington Park pre-season test.
The 26-year-old Brit was called up by Nextev on the final day with Piquet unavailable and Turvey travelling to Japan for the Super GT round at Suzuka, where he claimed his first pole position in the series but retired while in podium contention.
Stoneman was 16th fastest, having not completed a 200kw run in the dry, and hopes to land a reserve-driver role in the series.
