Hyundai only waiting on aero for 2017 car
Hyundai’s 2017 i20 WRC is nearing completion, with only the bodywork and aero expected to change significantly on the current test car.
The team was running on gravel just before Rally Germany before switching to more asphalt testing in France last week.
“We’re on the proper 2017 car now,” said Hyundai team principal Michel Nandan. “Or we have the proper car underneath the body. The aero regulations were fixed at the start of July, so we are still finalising this. But the transmission, suspension, everything is already 2017-spec. We are happy with the way the test is going.”
Asked when the final car would be presented, Nandan said: “We are not rushing this right now. We have a car competing for just one year with the current i20 WRC and we are happy to have some light on this one.”
Hyundai’s current car starred on Rally Germany, Nandan wants more of the same. He added: “If we have to compare where we are, we are in good pace and we are able to do good times. We show the performance of the car is there and this is good for the next events.”
