Just 24 hours later as he held the silverware aloft from the top step of the podium after race two, all four wheels were firmly bolted back on.
Championship-chasing Gordon Shedden won the opening race for Honda and Aron Smith became the 12th different winner of the year when he took his Team BKR VW CC to the spoils in the third.
But the pleasure was all with Tordoff. Sure, he had leaked four of the valuable nine-point buffer he had coming in to the meeting, but his title hopes were still firmly alive. What difference a day makes.
