ELMS ace Butcher joins Beechdean for British GT finale
European Le Mans Series frontrunner Rory Butcher will make a one-off return to the British GT Championship with the Beechdean AMR team.
Butcher has been drafted in by team head and reigning champion Andrew Howard to deputise for Ross Gunn, who has been loaned back to the team’s GT4 entry to help Jack Bartholomew’s title bid ( see page 13 13).
Butcher finished fourth in British GT last year with Motorbase, but has since moved to European competition with the JMW Ferrari 458 GTE team and is leading the ELMS GTE Drivers’ points alongside team-mates Robert Smith and Andrea Bertolini.
“It’ll be great to be back in British GT,” said Scotsman Butcher. “I got the offer to join Andrew and couldn’t turn it down.
“I know the Aston Martin Vantage very well, having done two years in it previously before moving to the Ferrari GTE. There are a few things I’ll have to get used to again, such as the different driving dynamics of having a front-engined car against the midengined Ferrari, but I’m sure I’ll adapt fast.
“It’s good to get my name back out there in British GT, and I’d love to do some more in Britain next season alongside European racing.”
