David Mairs will defend his Class B Motorsport News Circuit Rally Championship title, and wants overall podiums in his new Ford Focus.

Mairs returned to rallying for the first time in over 40 years in 2016 in a Volkswagen Polo, beating Mazda MX-5 specialist Paul Sheard to class honours. Now Mairs will push on for a higher finish in the championship.

“It’s 1600cc and still in Class B, but we’re talking fibreglass panels, short ratio gearbox, the lot,” said Mairs, who will once again be run by John Goff ’s rallyme organisation.

“The Polo was pretty much in road-spec, coming out of chicanes and hairpins it was breathless. The Focus is extremely quick, it handles really well and it has full racing brakes.

“We want to defend Class B but I want an overall podium.”
