Collard gets a taste of Euro F3 machinery
BRDC British Formula 3 Championship runner-up Ricky Collard sampled Dallara F3 machinery for the first time last week during a test with Carlin at Snetterton.
Collard, who was defeated in a title showdown with Double R Racing’s Matheus Leist at Donington Park a weekend earlier, tested one of Carlin’s European F3 machines at Snetterton last Wednesday. The 20-year-old was joined by sometime Carlin BRDC F3 teammate Lando Norris and Jehan Daruvala, as well as Nikita Mazepin and Ferdinand Habsburg, who were present with Hitech GP.
“After last weekend I was absolutely gutted. I didn’t deal with it [missing out on the title] very well and just wanted to be left alone.” he said. “But now I’m OK and I did the European F3 test, which was awesome. The team were really happy with the pace straight out of the box.
“The main difference is through high-speed [corners] and on initial turn in, and under braking. We put fresh tyres on at the end of the day and went quicker, so there was progression. Relative to the others, we were quite similar.”
Collard currently has no plans in place to contest the European F3 finale or Macau Grand Prix with Carlin, but said his ambition was to step up to the European championship for the 2017 season.
