Smith delighted with the potential of his Kadett after Isle of Man run
Rob Smith showed the potential of the Opel Kadett in historic asphalt rally trim with competitive stage times against the Ford Escort Mk2s on Rally Isle of Man.
With his own Ford Escort Mk2 awaiting bodywork repair after a roll on the Harry Flatters in late July, Smith borrowed the Kadett that his RSR Historic Engineering is now preparing for owner Peter Smith.
Rob drove it for the first time on Thursday’s shakedown stage and ultimately retired with engine dramas, but not before trading times with the leading Escorts.
“I’m so chuffed that Peter said to go and use it,” said Smith. “It is about 20bhp down on the BDG Escorts, but we’re here to enjoy ourselves and I love this rally,” he said before the start. RSR is also preparing Peter Smith’s Opel Ascona for gravel rounds of the BHRC.
