Mauger gets Mitsubishi Mirage for Patriot Stages and Jersey
Vauxhall Junior British Rally Team head Simon Mauger has signed a deal to compete in a Spencer Sport Mitsubishi Mirage for two rallies.
The reigning MSA Asphalt champion drove a Metro 4M4 last year but since starting the Vauxhall team, he’s had no time to compete.
Now the Bicester-based driver will head to the Patriot Stages this weekend, where Damian Cole is hoping to seal the MSA Asphalt Championship ( see page 23). Mauger will also enter the Jersey Rally, which he’s won nine times.
“I’ve said all year I didn’t want to do anything until the season is over,” said Mauger. “The British championship has been great this year but it’s meant I haven’t even thought about my own rallying but now I can relax and have some fun. Now we’ve done the deal with Spencer and I’m looking forward to it.
“I’ve always fancied a go in an R5 car and I’ve been impressed with what the Mitsubishi has done this year so it’s a good opportunity.”
Mauger provided Spencer Sport with a Vauxhall Adam Cup Car for last weekend’s Ulster Rally, where young driver James Williams piloted the car.
He was setting competitive times until a gearbox problem set him back.
