Utting encourages drivers into rallying
Welsh championship contender Wug Utting has announced plans to sponsor a local 12 Car navigational championship in a bid to help grassroots rallying.
The Subaru Impreza driver’s business, Utting Estates Ltd, will help with on-event expenses incurred by beginner and novice crews competing in the Rod Wray 12 Car Championship, which runs in the Kent, Surrey and Sussex counties.
“We decided to specifically help the Beginner and Novice categories as they provide the lifeblood of future motorsport,” said Utting. “We need incentives to encourage newcomers in and then, importantly, keep their interest so that they stay in the sport.”
Utting is a long-time supporter of the six-round series, which is organised by the Weald Motor Club group. Utting regularly enters championship rounds, navigated by his stage rallying co-driver Bob Stokoe.
Each rally offers 50 competitive miles for standard road cars. The championship’s opening round is on Friday October 21, organised by Borough 18 Motor Club.
