Hav­ing set his fastest Q2 time and over­taken Este­ban Gu­tier­rez while un­der yel­low flags to jump into the top 10, ev­ery­one in the world – ex­cept Perez him­self – ex­pected a penalty. When he was bumped back eight grid po­si­tions (five for ig­nor­ing the yel­low flag, three for over­tak­ing), he was fu­ri­ous but few had any sym­pa­thy. At he least re­cov­ered well in the race, though.

Nico Ros­berg’s pole po­si­tion was the 150th for a Mercedes en­gine in F1.the first came back in the 1954 French Grand Prix at Reims, when Juan Manuel Fan­gio took pole in the mar­que’s first world cham­pi­onship ap­pear­ance.
