CARRERA CUP RETURNS TO LE MANS IN 2017 CALENDAR
The Porsche Carrera Cup GB will return to Le Mans next season after its 2017 calendar has been unveiled.
The major change is a race on the 24-Hours support bill at La Sarthe next June as part of a combined 61-car contest for GB, French and Benelux Carrera Cup competitors. It is the first time the series has raced at the track since 2014.
Porsche GB motorsport manager James Macnaughton said: “From all of the things we discussed with the teams and drivers [about 2017] on Friday it [Le Mans return] is what everyone seems to be incredibly excited about.
“It develops all the links with top international motorsport that have proved so successful this season and puts many of our drivers within a stone’s throw of where they ultimately aspire to be.
“We have got the feeling this weekend that teams and drivers are really happy with the championship and that it gives them what they want.”
The 2017 season will comprise 15 races and will again run as part of the TOCA package for seven of its 10 weekends. Instead of visiting Croft, the Carrera Cup will go to Donington Park for the first time since 2014, and the Leicestershire weekend will feature an extended 40-minute race.
