An­to­nio Giov­inazzi grabbed the GP2 points lead af­ter win­ning the open­ing race at Sepang last week­end. For­mer leader Pierre Gasly made a poor start from pole and that al­lowed Raf­faele Mar­ciello and Giov­inazzi to pounce. Mar­ciello then ran wide at Turn 2 to let Giov­inazzi through and he went on to take the win as Gasly plum­meted to 11th. He clawed a few points back with third in race two, with Prema team-mate Giov­inazzi fourth. The race was won by Luca Ghiotto, his maiden tri­umph… There was Bri­tish suc­cess in GP3 with Alexan­der Al­bon win­ning the first race from Jack Aitken, and Jake Den­nis was vic­to­ri­ous in race two. Points leader Charles Le­clerc ex­tended his ad­van­tage with a third and a fifth, al­though he and team-mate Nyck de Vries col­lided in the opener… Roy Nis­sany and Egor Orudzhev won the two For­mula V8 3.5 races at Monza last week­end, with Nis­sany dom­i­nant in race one and Orudzhev mak­ing a bril­liant start from fifth in the sec­ond con­test… Tris­tan Vau­tier and Felix Rosen­qvist won the Blanc­pain GT Se­ries Sprint Cup fi­nale at Barcelona but eighth place for Mercedes crew Maxi Buhk and Do­minik Baumann gave them the over­all ti­tle… Michael Shank Rac­ing claimed a nar­row win in the Pe­tit Le Mans with Olivier Pla, Oswaldo Ne­gri Jr and John Pew’s Ligier-honda beat­ing the sim­i­lar car of Pipo Derani, Jo­hannes van Over­beek and Scott Sharp by just 3.5s de­spite los­ing a lap early on af­ter a slow open­ing stop. The IMSA Sportscar ti­tle went to fourth placed Dane Cameron and Eric Cur­ran… Martin Truex Jr dom­i­nated the NASCAR Sprint Cup race at Dover last week­end. Jamie Mcmur­ray, Kyle Lar­son, Chris Buescher and Tony Stew­art – in his fi­nal sea­son be­fore re­tire­ment – all dropped out of the Chase af­ter the race…
