Stuart Gough will compete in his 13th Walter Hayes Trophy and his first in a modern Formula Ford 1600 as he rejoins frontrunning outfit Kevin Mills Racing.

Gough – the 2014 National, Northern and Triple Crown FF1600 champion – believes that running a KMR Spectrum will give him his best chance at glory having never won the Silverstone single-seater showcase.

“There’s absolutely no excuse not to challenge for the win,” said Gough. “It’s a car that has been pretty dominant pace-wise, so it’s the best opportunity, probably ever, for me.”

KMR’S last Walter Hayes victory came courtesy of Scott Malvern in 2013. Gough has raced with the Wiltshire outfit previously, competing in British Formula Ford in 2004. He finished 13th in the standings in a Van Diemen RF03, missing the final four rounds of the year.

Gough will also compete in the Formula Ford Festival at Brands Hatch on October 22, in his Oldfield Motorsport-run Van Diemen DP08, a Duratec-to-kent-engine conversion. That car will also appear at the Walter Hayes meeting, run by Oldfield, for Gough’s brother Ian, who lives in Sydney. Gough Jr won his class in the Australian Formula Ford series in August at Wakefield Park, and has made multiple Walter Hayes appearances.
