The cancellation of the Star of Mallory event will also impact on the FF1600 Superseries, which was due to have a race at the Leicestershire venue.

The series can nominate a driver to be part of the Mazda Road to Indy shootout but because it’s not a championship, the method for this is far from straightforward.

At each round a Driver of the Race is selected with all of these drivers going on to take part in a shootout in the second week of November with the best driver winning a Road to Indy shootout place.

With the Mallory round cancelled, the Driver of the Race award will be chosen from Superseries’ registered competitors taking part in the Walter Hayes Trophy.

So far this year Oliver White, James Raven and Jake Byrne have been chosen but there is still the chance for three more drivers to bid for a shootout place.
