TEAM-MATES INGRAM AND DUGGAN TO GB
Rapid junior pairing team-up for Vauxhall R2 entry
Chris Ingram and Rob Duggan will go head-to-head on Wales Rally GB for the second year in a row, this time in Vauxhall Adams.
Killarney-native Duggan has competed in the Junior British Rally Championship with the Vauxhall Motorsport Junior Rally Team this year, winning five events out of seven on his way to the title and a subsidised entry into next year’s Drive DMACK Fiesta Trophy in the World Rally Championship.
Ingram was crowned European twowheel-drive champion but missed out on the ERC Junior championship in Latvia. German team-mate Marijan Griebel took the honours.
The car Ingram will drive is identical in specification to the Opel Adam he has competed in during the ERC this year, with the Vauxhall Junior Team running the cars for GB on behalf of Team Network Q, which has backed the two drivers, allowing them to enter the event.
Both Duggan and Ingram competed in Citroen DS 3 R3-MAXS on Wales Rally GB last year. Ingram’s car flooded on a road section and Duggan retired on the road section. Duggan was ahead of Ingram on his first major gravel rally before the Irishman retired.
Ingram believes the pace of the car on gravel has been proven this year in the Adam’s first full season on the surface in the ERC and BRC.
“It’s the same spec as I’ve been using in the ERC,” said Ingram. “In Latvia (gravel) Griebel and I were joint leaders so the gravel pace is there. Duggan has been quick in BRC as well so we know the pace of the car is there.”
Duggan believes the opportunity to benchmark himself against Ingram is a positive one.
“He’s done two or three years in European competition so he’s obviously a quick driver and it’s not going to be a walk in the park,” said Duggan. “To be close to him will be a great boost to us for next year. It should be a good battle.”
The two cars will run on DMACK tyres, and it will be the Adam R2’s debut on Wales Rally GB.
