Cost is too high
I read with interest Jack Benyon’s column regarding the number of spectators on the Manx.
As a current marshal, spectator and competitor – including having performed all these roles on the island – there is a reason why don’t I attend one of the best event in the British Isles.
Simple: it is the cost in time and money.
The ferry is expensive, too much time off work required. Due to these reasons I do not intend to stand in a box five-people deep and the enjoyment of marshalling is outweighed by these factors.
Also, if the Rally Isle of Man organisers were short of marshals I never saw it published anywhere. Mike Steele Via email
