Spec­ta­tor death calls a halt to Ral­lyle­gend

Ral­lyle­gend was can­celled two stages from the end fol­low­ing the death of a spec­ta­tor on Sun­day.

The ac­ci­dent hap­pened af­ter Bonaso En­rico lost con­trol of his Re­nault Clio Maxi un­der brak­ing for a left-han­der on the 12th of 14 stages.

A state­ment ex­plained the ac­ci­dent say­ing: “Car 44 went off the road and hit some straw bales pro­tect­ing the run-off path. Some spec­ta­tors stand­ing be­hind the bale were in­volved. Race con­trol stopped the stage and re­quested emer­gency ve­hi­cles to reach the crash site. One of the spec­ta­tors lost his life. Oth­ers were im­me­di­ately reached by the am­bu­lances and med­i­cal per­son­nel and trans­ferred to hospi­tal. The or­gan­is­ers de­cided to de­clare the 14th Ral­lyle­gend fin­ished af­ter San Marino 1 [the stage with the crash].”
