Spectator death calls a halt to Rallylegend
Rallylegend was cancelled two stages from the end following the death of a spectator on Sunday.
The accident happened after Bonaso Enrico lost control of his Renault Clio Maxi under braking for a left-hander on the 12th of 14 stages.
A statement explained the accident saying: “Car 44 went off the road and hit some straw bales protecting the run-off path. Some spectators standing behind the bale were involved. Race control stopped the stage and requested emergency vehicles to reach the crash site. One of the spectators lost his life. Others were immediately reached by the ambulances and medical personnel and transferred to hospital. The organisers decided to declare the 14th Rallylegend finished after San Marino 1 [the stage with the crash].”
