Speed retains the Global Rallycross Championship
Former Formula 1 driver Scott Speed successfully defended his Global Rallycross Championship title over Andretti Autosport team-mate Tanner Foust in a final-round decider in Los Angeles in America.
With two separate events taking place over the weekend in the American-based series, victory on Saturday and second place on Sunday was enough to secure Speed his second title, driving the squad’s Volkswagen Beetle Supercar.
Foust, who led the points race heading into the event, finished second on the opening day but fourth on Sunday at the Port of Los Angeles venue wasn’t enough to stop Scott taking the title. Brian Deegan won Sunday’s final driving an M-sport built Ford Fiesta, his first win in the series since 2011.
British driver David Higgins finished sixth on day one and ran in fifth for much of the final on day two but finished ninth, driving for the Subaru USA team.
